The politics of verticality were opened with the cold war. Namely as the expansion of national territory had become a matter of spaceflight and aerospace programs in the early 50s. Exploring outer space and thus dealing with the challenges of 0G had become major tasks. To suspend gravity was the foremost condition to vertical travel.
As Stephen Hawking pointed out in 2017 humankind will have to become a spacefaring species in order to not go extinct. If so, the gravity we ́re exposed to on planet earth will just be an episode in the human evolution. In this sense the momentum of 0G might bear a crucial perspective on the underlying structure within a long-scale human development.
Current technological acceleration increasingly fragments the continuum of space and time within our lives. Economical-, political-, social constructions seem to speed up in originating as well as in eroding. The reference points of social reality seem to lose gravitational force, transforming from slow shifting anchors towards free floating parameters within a multidirectional drift.
On the level of cognition the proximity towards the state of zero gravity is obvious. The operational modes of 0G are referred to as constant falling, free- floating or hovering in space. So far they described situations that are considered to be a state of exception to human existence. Predictably the dynamics of culture making and social realities will relate to theses modes as longterm preconditions.
