Virilio Cubes

Photographs © Thom Kubli

The Installation Virilio Cubes consists of 5 orthogonal objects positioned in a room. The objects are made of gelatine, voice coils are cast in and transfer sonic impulses on the materiality of the body. The cubes make audible the passages of diverse skateboard rides in urban space. A coherent movement of the acoustic events through the five oscillating elements sets up an immaterial connection between them.

The visitors can move freely through the space to experience the acoustic motion of the skateboard sounds. Further the haptile aspect, the transmission of acoustic movement unto the gelatine objects in form of surface oscillation calls for bodily contact by the recipient. The cubes can be touched to experience the tactile sensation of sonic data in relation to the immaterial acoustic events.
